The demand for vaginal implants remains high in health clinics as treatment of stress urinary incontinence, medical journals report, indicating that it has gained widespread use since it was first introduced in the market. This is particularly true in women who have the severe types of stress incontinence. Sometimes, patients with vaginal prolapse may even decide to engage in this procedure as well as a prophylaxis treatment for incontinence complications.
In incontinence, the leak may be as mild as one drop of urine to as worse as the complete inability to close the bladder. The latter requires the placement of an indwelling catheter until surgery is done to correct the anatomical problem, whereas a lifestyle change may suffice for mild types.
You may have already experienced urinary incontinence at some point and did not notice it because it is only for a short period of time. This is referred to as transient incontinence. It may be due to an irritation in the bladder induced by prolonged consumption of irritants like caffeine-containing and alcoholic drinks. Some medications such as diuretics, antihistamines, and antidepressants may even cause this unusual response from the bladder. Usually, when the consumption of these irritants gradually stops, the incontinence symptoms fade as well.
Recurring infections originating anywhere in the urinary tract may also trigger incontinence. One of these is bladder infections which may eventually lead to urge incontinence. This type of incontinence may be temporary, but there may be times when it may be extended because measures were not taken, or simply because treatment is not enough to address the infection.
Mental disorders, like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, may also cause temporary incontinence. Since these types of degenerative conditions progress as the patient ages, it is more likely that the incontinence symptoms may worsen requiring utmost treatment.
For the elderly, urinary incontinence is more and more evident because of a lot of factors. Firstly, this is because of their sedentary lifestyle, and limited physical mobility. The muscles generally weaken as people approach senility. Both men and women develop this weakness of the muscles, but women are more prone to it because of the plunge of the hormones estrogen and progesterone most particularly after menopause.
During pregnancy, the bladder may also be subjected to a slowly increasing pressure exerted by the growing uterus which is situated over it. Occasional incontinence episodes are also likely during this stage of a woman’s life. Even younger women who hold their urge to urinate for too long, may experience intermittent incontinence.
Transient incontinence, when ignored, may develop into a permanent condition. You need to remember that incontinence is highly curable with a wide variety of available treatment approaches. The most commonly administered therapy lately is the placement of a vaginal sling surgically. This has worked wonders to many women who agreed to it, but some did not get good results for too long since complications started showing up, and they had to file for a vaginal mesh lawsuit to satisfy their compensatory claims. So, if you feel like you have been accidentally leaking for quite a number of times lately, talk to your doctor immediately and discover ways to treat your symptoms in a conservative way.
